Medical Review Board - Notice
Have you received a letter from the state notifying you or a loved one, that your driver's license may soon be suspended [you have 45 days of notice] or revoked?
Our DRS is approved by the state of Florida to complete a comprehensive driving evaluation. Some conditions may have progressed beyond the ability to safely drive. Yet, many conditions may have improved with proper intervention from an OT/PT, Neurologist, or Orthopedic Surgeon. Many individuals may be able to regain their driving independence with the use of adaptive driving devices and safely drive again. Not all aging drivers have to retire their licenses. A2D is not in the business of revoking your license or driving independence. A few individuals may just need help polishing their driving skills in today's new advanced vehicles.

The process of installing driver controls for new users is a critical step in ensuring road safety.

** Prescription for a Driving Evaluation** Before we start your comprehensive evaluation, make sure to get a prescription from your doctor for a driving evaluation with your diagnosis.
**Driving Evaluation**: The process starts with a comprehensive evaluation by a Driving Rehabilitation Specialist (DRS), which includes reviewing the client's medical history, medication intake, cognitive abilities, physical strength, range of motion, and vision.-
**Adaptive Equipment Introduction**: If the client is deemed fit to drive, they are introduced to various adaptive driving equipment options that can assist them in operating a vehicle safely.-
**Training**: The client undergoes hands-on training in an Adapt 2 Drive vehicle, which is equipped with dual controls for gas and brake, allowing the DRS to maintain safety during the training sessions.-
**Driving Scenarios**: The training includes driving in various scenarios and traffic conditions, visiting common destinations such as work, banks, and grocery stores, and navigating parking lots, ATMs, fast food drive-thrus, and highways.
- **Equipment Prescription**: Based on the assessment, the DRS prescribes the necessary adaptive equipment tailored to the individual's needs.-
**Mobility Company Selection**: The client selects a Mobility Company, which then orders and installs the prescribed adaptive equipment. The installation timeframe can vary from 2 to 8 weeks, depending on the complexity of the modifications required.-
**Final Fitting/Checkout**: Once the equipment is installed, the DRS meets with the client at the mobility dealer for a final inspection and fitting. Adjustments are made as needed to ensure the client can safely operate their modified vehicle before getting on the road performing skills practiced during the training process as well as tasks required for the State road test. -
**Public Safety Assurance**: This meticulous process ensures that the driver can handle the vehicle's modifications, thereby safeguarding both the driver and the public.-
**DMV Notification**: After the final checkout, the client receives a letter to present to the DMV/County Tax Collector, indicating that they have been evaluated, trained, and are fit to drive with the installed equipment.-
**Road Test and Licensing**: The client schedules an appointment at their local DMV to take the road test. Upon passing, they receive a new driver's license that reflects the adaptive equipment endorsements.
