Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at Info@Adapt2Drive.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Adapt 2 Drive follows the Association for Drivers Rehabilitation Specialists [ADED] best practices.

As you age, your joints may get stiff, and your muscles may weaken. Arthritis, which is common among older adults, might affect your ability to drive. These changes can make it harder to turn your head to look back, turn the steering wheel quickly, or brake safely. Contact us to schedule an Adaptive Driving Evaluation. Yes. Novice Drivers who have never held or do not have in their possession— a drivers license from any other state, country, or jurisdiction, must complete a Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course before applying for a license in Florida.

Once complete, schedule a written drivers test at your county Driver’s License Office, Tax Collector Offices or License Plate Agents[Find the nearest location here]. Bring the required items to your appointment. You no longer need a copy of your completed certificate. Schools submit completion directly to the FLHSMV.  Once you receive the notice you passed the written drivers license exam, you will take a picture, then you will receive your permit the same day.

[Suggestion: comb your hair and smile nice you will have that id for a while]

Optional: If you do not have a vehicle to take the drivers license test you may reserve the vehicle 1 week in advance for a per hour fee depending on location and amount of time needed.

Yes, Adapt 2 Drive Instructors drive to locations in the Tampa Bay service areas which include a client’s home, work, or school with an insured company vehicle.  [Pick and Drop off at the same location].

A driver evaluation includes a Visual perception • Functional ability • Reaction time • Behind-the-wheel evaluation. If indicated, our instructor will also introduce any adapted driving equipment, such as hand controls, during the behind-the-wheel portion of the evaluation. More than one evaluation may be required depending on the severity of your condition. At times drivers have to complete a series of driver training sessions to refresh their driving ability and/ or gain competency with the new equipment. Final recommendations from our instructor will be shared with you and referring physician. Prescription for adapted driving equipment and/or vehicle modifications are shared with the mobility equipment dealer (MED) and, together, as a team our instructor and MED work to achieve the best possible outcome for you.

* We do require our clients to obtain a written prescription from their primary care doctor or specialist [for a Driving Evaluation, Practice and Equipment] *

You must first complete the 12-hour online course to receive a certificate of completion. Have either an active driver’s license, a 1 day temporary permit [dated the date of your scheduled 4 hours of driver training] or use the letter from the state requiring you to complete the program.  Upon completion of the 4 hours of driving with our certified driving instructor, Adapt 2 Drive will complete the documentation and forward it to the DHSMV. Once the DHSMV updates your file, we will notify you to schedule your appointment at the driver’s license office.

You will be required to complete the FLHSMV behind-the-wheel test.

Optional: If you do not have a vehicle to take the drivers license test you may reserve the vehicle 1 week in advance for a per hour fee depending on location and amount of time needed.

A Final Checkout can take up to 3 hours. This is required and necessary for the Driving Rehab Specialist to make sure the correct equipment was ordered and installed per the written prescription. The equipment fits you and your vehicle, make adjustments as needed so that you can safely drive your vehicle. Then there is Behind-The-Wheel driving in different driving environments.

YOUR SAFETY IS OUR #1 PRIORITY.

Upon satisfactory completion of the session, you will receive a document to give to the FLHSMV to update your drivers license to include adaptive equipment. Driving with equipment not endorsed on your drivers license is against the law.

Adapt 2 Drive requires 1 week notice prior to final checkout so your Driving Rehab Specialist [DRS] can arrange his/her schedule to meet you and Mobility Dealer.
